And then there were two… August 7, 2006

Our little calico Royal Palm turkeys are coming along…well, sort of.
We started with 6 hatchlings. You may remember the unfortunate outcome of one. So, we were down to 5. Over the last few weeks, their numbers have dwindled further. Several days I went out to discover that the mama hen showed up to breakfast with one fewer poults. I never have found the lost ones leaving me to wonder if hawks got them or whether their mother just kept losing them in tall weeds. Now that she is down to two, a number I believe she can count, maybe she won’t lose anymore. I am still planning to get them into the chicken tractor soon to help ensure their survival.
We believe we have a pair, one male and one female. If so, I’d like to call them George and Martha.
