Tree-Climbing Dolts May 22, 2009

For all their annoying habits (like getting their heads stuck in the fence and eating the blueberry plants :-( ), goats (a.k.a. “dolts” according to Lydia) are entertaining.  I glanced out the window yesterday to see this.

No, they didn’t do anything particularly amazing to get up there, but it was funny to see.  Remember that tree that came down (well, partly anyway)?  The goats are able to climb onto the ends of the limbs that haven’t quite separated from it and and go up from there.  They are pretty proud of themselves.

For some reason, that makes me think of the movie “Swiss Family Robinson”. They must be really bored to “climb” a tree.

That is funny. You should not have posted that the tree was down. I would have made up some fantastic story about the rare breed of climbing goats. :)

Oh, it was tempting to make something up (or at least let people assume that they could actually climb)! Then maybe we’d have requests for the offspring of these amazing dolts!

When I was little, we used to go to Opryland (the theme park in Nashville) and we always had to stop at the petting zoo. There were 2 goat houses separated by a scary looking board crosswalk way up high. I always hoped to see a goat crossing while we were there. Rarely did.

You want to know the funniest thing? When I take our children to the zoo now, they still want to go in and pet the goats even though they have their own at home. Go figure!
